The Dullest Cover Critic Yet!

A lot has changed since the last time we featured an episode of the Cover Critic. Both Sony and Nintendo have released new portable game systems, long time companies have shut their doors forever, and the world has been reintroduced to a certain lawyer named Jack Thompson. Heck, even this site you're looking at has changed in many ways. So maybe it's time we take another serious look at video game covers, letting you know which ones we like and which we hate. After two years I invite you to embrace a brand new Cover Critic, one that isn't afraidto tell you what we really think. So enjoy five new covers and one new look!

Extreme G3
While the cover is esentially a simple picture, it is extremely effective. However, not enough to make you WANT to play it. There isn't a lot of mystery here. And with a name like Extreme G3 this whole package leaves a lot to be imagined. Acclaim has never been known for the best box art, and this certainly isn't the worst, but this is far from the best you can do in a short amount of time!

Mario Kart Super Circuit
For such a wonderful game, Mario Kart has lost it's "super" and it's cool. At least judging it by this cover! After a pretty attractive Japanese box, Mario Kart Super Circuit is a major let down. Does Mario really think he looks cool with the "over the shoulder look"? I think not.

World Series Baseball 2K2
Sports games don't have the best covers, this is true. And then again, this World Series Baseball 2002 cover isn't the worst, either. Sega is keeping with their unified sports line. As you can tell the pitcher is in mid pitch, and I can only assume it's going to be a strike. Sure this cover leaves a lot to the imagination, but what else do you expect from a Sports game?

NCAA College Football 2K2
This cover is basically the same cover as World Series Baseball, except with a college football player. How ingenius, Sega. Nevertheless, NCAA College Football's cover may not be spectacular, but at least it's keeping with their uniformed series ... wow, deja vu. Can you imagine if this COVER CRITIC was ALL SEGA SPORTS? How dull would that be? (answer: slightly duller than this update).

WWF Betrayal
There is nothing more homoerotic than the WWF ... well, for a while that wasn't true, the WCW was, but after the merger, the WWF is the king of sweaty guys a little too close for comfort. Like wrestling if you will (I don't) but let's be realistic, what the hell is with this cover?!? I've made FAKE covers that look better ... and that was for the XFL!! If there is anything good to say about this cover, I like how that colorful "color" contrasts so with the rest of the cover art.
