Silent Hill or Ico?!?

A lot has changed since the last time we featured an episode of the Cover Critic. Both Sony and Nintendo have released new portable game systems, long time companies have shut their doors forever, and the world has been reintroduced to a certain lawyer named Jack Thompson. Heck, even this site you're looking at has changed in many ways. So maybe it's time we take another serious look at video game covers, letting you know which ones we like and which we hate. After two years I invite you to embrace a brand new Cover Critic, one that isn't afraidto tell you what we really think. So enjoy five new covers and one new look!

ICO
Alright, before you cry foul, let me explain how I could give this cover a "D+". I mean, the art's not THAT bad, and the pictures not the worst thing I've ever seen ... but for a game that is one of the best games going for ANY SYSTEM, it's a shame that nobody will play it. The only people buying Ico will be the people who read web sites like this one!! Please, in the future, REVISE THIS HORRIBLE COVER! Bad Sony, Bad.

Silent Hill 2
Now here you go! This cover is not only eye catching, but it's also memerable. It's also creepy as hell, and a lot better than other art I've seen recently. Once you've seen this cover your likely to NEVER forget it. This cover is simple, it's dark, it's innocent, but exactly what I want to see more of. Who can resist a cover like this? I bet 9 out of 10 people would buy this over Ico due to the cover ... even though Ico is so much stronger of a game. The justice.

Phantasy Star Online Ver. 2
You can't really tell by this picture, but the quasi-sequel to Phantasy Star Online's cover SHINES. It's a real nice, though silly, effect. Basically this cover is a play on the original's picture, though you must admit how much better this one looks. I only wonder what the third semi-sequel will look like. Please, NO GOLD!!!

Advance Wars
This sleeper hit for the Game Boy Advance has a pretty cool cover, too. It's simple, and not covered by righting ... but it's also not really that memerable. At least, not enough to where you'd recommend the cover art. But then, have you seen the cover art for Ico? Shudder ...

Heavy Metal: Geomatrix
Yeah, I know I like simple covers, and this is a simple cover, but it's not all that intersting, either. I mean, Heavy Metal 2000 may have sucked, but at least it had a 90% naked girl on the cover! This just shows a bad ass with a gun for a hand ... like I didn't see that in Final Fantasy VII. Anyway, Frankly outside of having a naked woman on the cover, Heavy Metal is a major disappointment.
