Gran Turismo vs. Nascar ... Not a Hard Choice!

A lot has changed since the last time we featured an episode of the Cover Critic. Both Sony and Nintendo have released new portable game systems, long time companies have shut their doors forever, and the world has been reintroduced to a certain lawyer named Jack Thompson. Heck, even this site you're looking at has changed in many ways. So maybe it's time we take another serious look at video game covers, letting you know which ones we like and which we hate. After two years I invite you to embrace a brand new Cover Critic, one that isn't afraidto tell you what we really think. So enjoy five new covers and one new look!

Gran Turismo 3: A Spec
And now for the cover we've all been waiting for ... Gran Turismo 3. Indeed it's pretty, plus it's nice and simple, but it's nowhere as good as the game is! This cover begs the question: is it real, or is it CGI. Regardless, the nice coloring, and the reflections are enough to proclaim this a "good" cover. It's no Twisted Metal Black, though. But who's really looking at the cover when they could be playing Gran Turismo 3?

NASCAR Heat 2002
Well, here's the other racing game that came out this week. Most people didn't pick it up because Gran Turismo 3 A Spec was released ... and because this cover is just hideous. It's extremely red, and yells CART FURY from acrossed the hall. Please, no more covers like this one, please.

Stupid Invaders
With a name like Stupid Invaders I expected a truly stupid cover. Heck, even the advertising was REALLY stupid. But what we get isn't really stupid, it's really dull. This isn't the way to make a memorably stupid cover, this should be better.

Digimon Digital Card Battle
At first I really hated the cover, I mean, it's dramatic, it's Digimon, it's drab. But now I look at it and see it as better than average cover, because it's dramatic and Dull ... it would be better if it wasn't Digimon.

Atari Anniversary Edition
When does a simple cover become pretentious? Take a look at Atari's arrogant cover for their newest comp disc for the Dreamcast. This wouldn't be so bad if it were the title screen, but as video game cover art, this is total trash. It's just plain arrogant.
