E3 Hands On: Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)

Now is the time to ... RUN LIKE HELL!!
When I first walked up to the PS3 Demo section of E3 this year, I decided against the long lines and went to demo some of the smaller games to which Cyril will be sure to make fun of me at a later date. We eventually returned to this area and decided to wait a little bit to play some Resistance: Fall of Man, which is Insomniacs impressive first person shooter set to release with the PS3. The game is set in 1951 in which World War 2 never took place due to the fact that a race known as Chimera have wiped out most of humanity. The Chimera are reported to have started out as humans who have been infected somehow.

You play as Nathaniel Hale, a lone United States Ranger who has recently joined up with the remaining British resistance. Resistance: Fall of Man takes place soon after Europe has been taken over by the Chimera. The demo available on the show floor immediately engulfed me, no longer was I in one of the loudest places on earth, I was in the game. When I started the demo, I was instantly thrust against enemies, some that were human like, and others that were not. It took less then a minute to find out what made me zoom, what made me throw grenades and the like, soon after I was kicking some major resistance ass! The level was rather intense due to the small area, and thus I never knew what was around the next corner, boy was I in for a surprise! A few bad guys later and broken windows, I was met face one with spider-like enemies that can only be described as the flood from Halo; I actually was so into the game that I gasped and jumped backwards! I knew at that moment that this was a must own game!

The company developing this game has had an interesting history with unique weapons from their Ratchet and Clank series, so even though this is set in 1951, don't expect some poor ass rifle. The weaponry in this game ranges from needle grenades, fully automatic machine guns and of course, a gun that can shoot through walls! According to the press release, the developers want to make it to where you must use certain weapons in situations, that way you don't just run and gun with no strategy. Another thing from the press release was the ability to make a choice on what you want to do, which will ultimately affect the outcome of the game.

The demo I played didn't include any vehicles, so it is still yet to be seen what that will be like, there will however be 32 player online support with a bunch of modes to select from. This game is shaping up to be a must own game at system launch that uses the systems power to its advantage!

But How Good is It? By my overly positive and excited preview of this game, I can tell you it is REALLY good, and I certainly will be picking this game up with my PS3, after I sell some of my not so vital organs.
