Yahoo! Messenger vs. Street Fighter

Sometimes you can spend hours and days working on an article. Why? Because sometimes it takes that long to research and write up a detailed article on the caliber you've come to expect. But then there are some stories that just kind of appear out of nowhere, and yet reap much fruit. This is one of those articles.

While I was sitting thinking about something new I could search for, I noticed a strange advert on the top of my browser. It was the banner ad for Yahoo! Messenger, the fourth most popular instant message program. As you can see with the middle picture up above, Yahoo! Messenger are using a couple of familiar faces to e3 sell their newest program. I can't be too sure, but those two characters look an awful lot like Ryu and Ken from Capcom's Street Fighter series. Even their poses are dead on!

After digging through the Yahoo! page I realized that this messenger offered a few unique, game related, features. For example, you could get a Sonic the Hedgehog themed messenger, or a Super Mario Brothers one. There was even a site devoted to Yahoo! Fighters, which spawned this Freeze Frame. If one thing is for sure, Yahoo! is really targetting gamers, and they don't seem to care who they have to rip off to do that. I don't care if you call it Yahoo! Fighters, Fighting Street, or whatever ... it's still Street Fighter.
