Liquid Kids

I tend to play more puzzle games these days, what with my DS and all, but I'm really very fond of a good side-scrolling platform game. Finding a decent platformer these days can be somewhat of a challenge, and finding a side-scrolling platformer even more so ... if even still possible. That being the case, I fall back on the good ol' boys: the Master System, the NES, and my sweet, sweet TurboGrafx. Though many of the games of that genre for the system were either far too "Crazy Japanese" to really understand, or simply bad games. I was not a Keith Courage fan, nor did I really enjoy the Bonk games. So, I've been relying pretty heavily on Liquid Kids.

While it certainly is not the greatest game I have played for the TurboGrafx; Liquid Kids is cute, with colorful graphics. Your character attacks the approaching hordes of cutesy looking enemies by tossing large spheres of, I assume, ice, as the enemies freeze until you walk into them and push them out of the way. Your character resembles a platypus, with his brownish, Kirby-esque form sporting a big beak.

The game does shake it up a bit and has you throwing liquid balls at various objects; such as throwing balls at propellers to make them turn, or small rafts to power their paddles. You can also wield incredible power by creating larger fodder by holding the button down longer.

The graphics are pretty good by Turb Grafx standards, but are certainly not the greatest. The controls are fairly responsive though, definitely scoring points over a game like Keith Courage (I just hate him so much)!

All things considered, if you're looking for a fun platformer without too much challenge and mildly engaging interface to kill some time, Liquid Kids is definitely worth a shot. This is a nice, quirky character and, coming from the TurboGrafx, puts him in pretty good company.
