The Legend of Zelda (NES)
After conquering the 2D platforming market with Super Mario Bros., Nintendo visionary Shigeru Miyamoto turned his focus to an overhead adventure game full of dungeons, dragons and magic. It turns on he was on to something, and three decades later we still enjoy the adventures of link in The Legend of Zelda. But sometimes he fails at his quest. This is what happens when Link dies.

Who Died? Link, a fearless swordsman and green clothing aficionado.

What Happened? Several seasons passed before anybody realized Link had died. It's not that the good people of Hyrule liked living under the tyrannical rule of Ganon, but rather that nobody expected some annoying kid to actually save Princess Zelda and bring order back to the land. They were right to have their doubts, as Link died early in his quest. A search party was sent out to ascertain what happened, but all they found was a damaged sword. An eyewitness says that a swarm of Octorok monsters attacked Link, leaving him to die. Some say he flashed for a few seconds and then disappeared into the air. The police disagreed, ruling that Link was killed and then eaten by a pack of wild animals. It was an open and shut case and led to very little paperwork.
