Atari Jaguar Will Play Lynx Games (Retro Rumor #22)

Welcome to 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors, a brand new series that will run daily between November 26 and December 25, 2015. This is a series where we debunk some of the craziest rumors and predictions of all time. Today we're talking about playing Atari Lynx games on the Jaguar. Let Die Hard Game Fan explain how it will work in today's episode of 30 Ridiculous Retro Rumors.

This is a real rumor taken directly from the February 1993 issue of Die Hard Game Fan ...

Talk about burying the lead. Forget the stuff about Atari missing the Summer Consumer Electronics Show, what's this about Lynx games working on the Jaguar? And that's because of an AV out? Okay, this needs a little unpacking.

As far as I can tell, Atari never planned on making their 64-bit console compatible with the Lynx. Electronic Gaming Monthly had monthly updates that went into exhaustive detail about the Jaguar, Panther, Sparrow and anything else Atari had up their sleeves, and not even Quartermann hypothesized about Lynx games working on your TV.

But here's what I don't understand: What does the AV out have to do with this? Am I missing something, or don't all game consoles have an AV out? Forget the wiring; what you need is a place to put the Lynx games. The Jaguar has a cartridge slot that is entirely too big for the tiny Lynx games. If seeing truly is believing, then I want Die Hard Game Fan to show me what the hell they're talking about. I want to believe.
