Introducing the Defunct Games Blog (Working Title)

Stolen artwork may or may not be a staple of this unnamed blog section!
This is a blog. Okay, so it may not look like your typical blog, but I am choosing to call it a blog nevertheless. I genuinely hate the term "blog;" it has always felt like a backhanded compliment. It's right up there with "you have such a pretty face" and "you're such a fun drunk." I don't want my work to be good for a blog; I want it to be of regular website quality.

In case you haven't noticed, I have a few weird hang-ups about blogs and web design in general. I may not like the term, but most people understand a blog to be more personal than your typical news article. In keeping with that tradition, I give you the Defunct Games Blog. No, that can't be the name; it's a bridge too far. Instead we'll call it ... Deep Thoughts w/ Defunct Games.

There's about a 90% chance I change the name after three posts and we all look back at this episode and laugh. But it's late at night and I don't want to call it a blog. For now I'm sticking with Deep Thoughts w/ Defunct Games.

On second thought, I recently renamed the Top 10 Lists, leading to a very similar Countdown w/ Defunct Games, it would be stupid to have two sections with almost exactly the same name. And really, how deep are these thoughts going to be? Forget three posts, Deep Thoughts w/ Defunct Games couldn't even last three paragraphs.

I guess that means this blog still doesn't have a name. But what it lacks in a name it more than makes up for in purpose. You see, this section is intended to be completely different from everything else on Defunct Games. This section is all about being open about who I am as a person, gamer and writer. You may have been reading my articles for thirteen long years, but I rarely spend the time to talk about myself and what it takes to make Defunct Games.

Some of these blog posts are going to be heartfelt and serious, ranting about the struggles of running a very old video game website. Other posts will be more lighthearted. Sometimes we'll just spend the time catching up with articles you may have missed and recommendations. These articles won't come with a lot of fancy graphics; I plan on writing them up and posting them throughout the week.

This brand new section means I'm finally changing the front page. Now you'll see a big box specifically dedicated to this brand new unnamed blog. It will start displaying the four most recent entries ... as soon as there are four posts to link. You will also notice we rearranged other parts of the front page, thought the list of recent articles remains unchanged.

Hopefully you will like the new changes and come with me on this journey of trying to sell Defunct Games to the general public. For the time being, I'll call this section: "Clever Blog Name TK." Perhaps that will make a journalism student snicker. Think you can come up with a better name? Post your ideas in the comments section and I'll give a game to the winning entry.
