WALL OF TEXT EXPLAINED: What you're looking at is an episode of Countdown w/ Defunct Games published before 2006. As you can tell, something has gone horribly awry. I won't bore you with the technical details, but it has to do with the old layout being incompatible with the new. Eventually, we would like to retrofit these old episodes of Countdown, but that will require a significant amount of time. As Defunct Games has only a limited staff, we aren't sure when we'll have the chance to fix this article. #10 Silent Scope Sure it's hard to play at home, but in the arcade Silent Scope is solid gold. The handy sniper rifle control is superb, and looking through the site to aim is ingenius. Too bad it's such a short game, but actually being able to take out a guy on a football field from the stands is a great feeling, no matter what age you look. #9 Virtua Cop Not nearly as much fun as Time Crisis, but way more fun than Silent Scope, Virtua Cop introduced the tired gun game genre to 3-D polygons! It's hard to resist a game that allows you to cap people in the knees, arms, feet, and head, and always see a different animation. A limited game that is short lived, but who really cares? #8 Super Spy One of the few non-fighting Neo Geo games, Super Spy is almost a first person shooter. But no matter, Super Spy flies off the screen with tons of ways of killing the always coming (never ending) line up of terrorists you are forced to deal with. Yikes. If this scale was based on body count this game would win hands down. #7 Soldier of Fortune How can you beat a game that not only lets you kill a terrorist but also blow individual limbs off, if that's how you get off. Great graphics, a good story, and solid play control makes Soldier of Fortune one must own game for every terrorist hunter. #6 Rogue Spear Even if you got enough terrorist killing in Rainbow Six, Rouge Spear is here almost from nowhere. On airplanes, in offices, no matter where the terrorists are, you're there too. This tactical first person shooter might seem slow moving at first, but once mastered everything from the story mode to the multiplayer mode is top notch. #5 Golgo 13 series The coolest secret Agent may be James Bond, but the one with the biggest head is DUKE TOGO. That's right, Golgo 13 is always ready to defeat terrorists and evil doers, no matter where they live! And how can you beat a series with names like: The Mafat Conspiracy? #4 Syphon Filter Series A little hard to control, a bit silly on the story, but the effort is there. Originally dubbed Metal Gear Solid-lite, Syphon Filter is almost ready to burst into a third installment, and the terrorists are still there. Not very effective, but fun, nonetheless. #3 Die Hard Trilogy Die Hard games aren't always good, just look at the Saurn, Dreamcast, and TurboDuo games, but the license is. Die Hard Trilogy finally got it right, not just one style of game, but three. There's shooting, there's kicking, there's driving, boy oh boy, in some ways this is even better than the movies. Well, the third one at least. #2 Time Crisis Though I'm not one for shooting games, this one is the first to actually use more than just a gun. That's right, with a pedal you actually can hide behind boxes, buildings, and other hidden areas. Sure the game is linear as hell, but it's also fun through and through. Tough, too. #1 Counter Strike Even people who don't like First Person Shooters have to appreciate the amount of replay found in Counter Strike. Tons of levels, and easy to use interface, and tons of depth, Counter Strike seems to have it all, even though it's starting to show it's age. The game is even better with a room full of friends playing on a computer LAN. Great stuff all around. Question: Here we are, one year later (it's September 11th, 2002 as of this writing), what do you feel are the best anti terrorist games NOT on this list? Surely there have been a few anti-terrorist games not told here. Right? That's one heck of a question, but I cannot tell a lie, there are a few games that did not make the list. Mostly because they weren't available at the time, but being as it's a year later, and we've done a redux of the terrorism article, I feel it almost my duty to add a few more anti-terrorist games to the last. Without a doubt the very best anti-terrorist game recently has been SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals. It's an online war on terrorism, and yet successfully manages to become one of the best playing tactical action game of its kind. Metal Gear Solid 2: the Sons of Liberty should also be on the list, as it features one of the greatest stories of all time, and some great game play. The upcoming Splinter Cell may also need to be added to the list. From what was shown at this years E3, gamers should have no trouble warming up to this adventure. Even though they are not new, the Rainbow Six series should also be mentioned. These games, all of them, are worth owning, no matter what system they are for.
