WALL OF TEXT EXPLAINED:
What you're looking at is an episode of Countdown w/ Defunct Games published before 2006. As you can tell, something has gone horribly awry. I won't bore you with the technical details, but it has to do with the old layout being incompatible with the new. Eventually, we would like to retrofit these old episodes of Countdown, but that will require a significant amount of time. As Defunct Games has only a limited staff, we aren't sure when we'll have the chance to fix this article. If you absolutely need to know what this article said, get a hold of us on Twitter or leave a message in the comment section below. Sorry for the inconvenience. I hope you will enjoy the episodes created post-2006.

Rygar
Hey look kids, it's Rygar! Remember Rygar? The arcade, then N.E.S. psuedo-hit may make a comeback if the rumors are true. Sure it's been more than a decade since we've heard from this shielded action hero, but if all is true then we could be in for quite a surprise. Hey, it might not be at the show, but if it is then it deserves being on the list, wouldn't you agree? No, perhaps it's time to move on ...

Resident Evil Zero
Sure only a few shots have been shown from Capcom's newest survival horror game. And it might not even be at the show (does THAT sound like the mantra of the list or what?) But let's face it, with something like six new Resident Evil games coming out in the next twelve months, I suspect to see at least ONE of the games there. We've been over this before, people trapped in a house, city, or building with zombies throwing themselves at you.

Dragon's Lair
Some people love you, some people admire you, but Dragon's Lair, I hate you! You are a money eating, soul sucking game that does nothing to push the term INTERACTIVE MOVIE forward! Oh sure, it's like twenty years old, and sure it was the first laser disc game. But if you call pushing left, right, up, or down every so often without much warning fun, well, then you're alone on this one. But this year we have Dragon's Lair 3D. It's a GameCube game that LOOKS like it's a cartoon, but is actually a fully realized interactive event. Hmm, sounds promising. Let's just put it this way, it couldn't be any worse than the original.

World Series Baseball
Even games like Acclaim's All Star Baseball and EA Sport's Triple Play rip off Sega's once great Baseball series. It's been a couple years since we've seen a competent World Series Baseball game, but if Sega's claims are on the money, the Xbox version will be something to celebrate. Regardless, this Baseball game can't be any worse than World Series Baseball 2k1, or can it?
#6
Mortal Kombat V
After a series of fairly awful sequels and updates (and even collections), Mortal Kombat is back to give itself a good name again. With a cast of new characters, an entirely different 3D layout, and some kick butt graphics, this Mortal Kombat is shaping up to be something special. Well, let's hope it will. And frankly, let's hope Mortal Kombat Advance II is nowhere to be seen (or even heard).
#5
Toe Jam & Earl III
It's been a long time since we've seen ToeJam and Earl. After two Genesis games and a proposed Dreamcast title, Microsoft's super system is about to catch the funk. With a brand new adventure, Sega is looking to bring their funky aliens back for a brand new 3D adventure. The game looks like it will bring along it's own unique multiplayer games, and will support many of the other Xbox functions.
#4
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness
I know what you're thinking: Why on EARTH are you even bringing Lara Croft back into another article? After all, she's been known for nothing but me-too sequels, a totally generic action movie, and a craze that is so five minutes ago it's not even funny. But this Tomb Raider looks like it could go that extra mile. It could be the Metal Gear Solid of Lara's adventures. So far the graphics look good, perhaps we'll see if they improved the game in any other ways.

Panzer Dragoon Orta
Sadly this isn't a sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga, the single greatest Role Playing Game on the Saturn. But Panzer Dragoon Orta is shaping up to be one of the greatest shooters of all time. Perhaps this game will allow you to actually control the dragon, or perhaps we'll see some of the most stunning bosses in video game history. I guess only time will tell.
#2
Ninja Gaiden
No, not the Ninja Gaiden on the Lynx and in the arcade, but rather the odd port on the N.E.S. game from yester-year. Though this game is still in the rumor stages, I'm going with the belief that Ninja Gaiden will appear at E3 in one form or another. Considering there is ZERO information on this game, it goes without saying that I have high expectations about what this COULD be. And hey, perhaps they could introduce the elements that made the arcade game great. Just as long as they keep that story, I'll be happy.

Shinobi
I'm not just a ninja fan or anything, but come on, of all the updates coming out this year, is there one cooler than Shinobi? The third installment on the Genesis is not only a great action title, but a tour de force for what was possible years ago. Now in 3D, Sega's PlayStation 2 Shinobi should make up for the Saturn title. It's been a long time since we've seen a good Shinobi, and frankly, it's about time. This is one of the titles I most look forward to this year.
Question: That doesn't seem fair. There are a lot of sequels that are going to ROCK, but so did their predecessors. So, what do you have to say about that? What are you looking forward to?
I'll be honest with you, a lot of the games I'm looking forward to seeing this year are these games you speak of. I'm extremely interested in a number of high profile sequels. For example, I'm interested in seeing the Xbox version of Crazy Taxi 3, I must say it looks might good. And with a brand new single player AND multi player level editor, Time Splitters 2 also looks like it will be one of the best online console games ever! And even though it's out in the U.S., many American's will see Tekken 4 in action for the first time. And then there's the matter of Devil May Cry 2 at the Capcom booth. I mean, how can you pass that up?? And speaking of HIGH PROFILE, what about Final Fantasy XI, or Zelda, or Mario Sunshine, or, or, or, But you know. The game I'm looking forward to the most? Metroid Fusion!
