What If Die Hard Game Fan Reviewed Modern Games?

When it comes to reviews, today's game fans are spoiled. These days we are used to thousand word reviews that touch on every detail of the game in question. There's a level of critical thinking you simply didn't get in most 1990s game publications. Twenty years ago, editors only had a couple dozen words to work with and were forced to be vague. Because simply listing the differences wouldn't be enough, we've decided to create a visual representation of the many, many changes.

In this episode we'll be taking a look at Die Hard Game Fan, a 1990s magazine best known for their hyperbolic reviews and undying love for certain companies. They also had a thing for clashing colors and obnoxious designs. You could almost hear Skid, Sgt. Gamer, Tom Slick and The Enquirer hyperventilating about the newest must-own game. Here is what would happen if Die Hard Game Fan decided to review Destiny, Velocity 2X, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Mario Kart 8 and TxK.

If this feature looks familiar, it's because we posted a similar Electronic Gaming Monthly parody a little over a year ago. It was a huge hit, and it still brings traffic to the site. To capitalize on the success of that show, we've decided to spin it off into its own series. In future episodes we'll skewer other 1990s magazines, such as Game Informer, GamePro and Mean Machines Sega. We'll also tackle other parts of the magazines, including the previews and rumor sections. Send us a Tweet and let us know what you would like to see in future episodes.
